Leanne Taylor
Leanne took to structured training well during her marathon block, enjoying a mix of interval and tempo sessions whilst building her long run and weekly mileage up. During the block she also had a strong run at Kenilworth half and pulled out a fabulous race day performance to run a 4:36 marathon at Berlin! Since Berlin, she has continued form into a 10 mile PB of 1:32 and a 27:35 parkrun - that PB is within touching distance in the New Year! Leanne has some exciting goals on the horizon in 2024, none bigger than the Chicago Marathon in October!
Sam Fearn
Sam has had a fantastic first year of running, getting stuck into plenty of local races for South Derbyshire Road Runners. This resulted in a rapid progression of PBs and being club champion within his division! He has developed a passion for his running and a keen interest in his own training, and now has PBs of 19:32 over 5k, 41:03 for 10k and a 68:53 10mile time. He’s working hard to build up the mileage and his long run ahead of a half marathon and marathon next Spring.Â
Robbie Cresswell-Howe
Robbie started the year with a brilliant sub 80 clocking over half marathon at Santa Pola. He then got a taste of training like a full time athlete for a week in Spain and has been keen to increase his training load ever since. He went through an excellent training block for the Manchester Marathon in April, with the result not doing the justice of the shape he was in on the day. Robbie continued his relentless consistency in training over the summer which reaped rewards in PBs across 4 distances, 5k - 17:02 5m - 30:06 10k - 35:06 10m - 59:14 finding himself competing at the top end of races. It’s been a fantastic year for Robbie and watch out for 2024 where he’ll be shooting for PBs and juggling new dad duties!
Samantha Allsop
Sam attended the coaching sessions in July and got a taste of tempo, intervals and float recovery sessions to add some more structure to her training. As a keen rower, she has been able to benefit from the aerobic fitness that has helped her to improve in both sports this year. Sam achieved her goal of a sub 70 min 10k at Wilne in September with a great run in hot conditions. Our focus towards the back end of the year has been to work towards breaking the 30min barrier for 5k which is only a matter of time in the New Year!
Stuart Beckett
Stuart started the year off the back of half marathon and 10k PBs at Manchester and Telford respectively, building strongly towards the Manchester Marathon in April. As part of the block, he put the added aerobic fitness from marathon training to good use to achieve a 2:03 half marathon at Barcelona. Stuart then had the opportunity to have a long awaited meniscus operation in the spring, which unfortunately ruled him out of the marathon. For anyone struggling for a bit of running motivation, he has documented his running journey from 2022 at Beckett Runs - Getting Out, Getting Fit on YouTube, which is an inspiring journey to say the least! Stuart recovered from the operation with cycling over the summer and had a homecoming race at the Brewers 10k in October. I hope the comeback journey continues in 2024 and we can follow along on his channel!
Joe Bassett & Sara Sneath
More recently, I’m delighted to be overseeing Joe Bassett and Sara Sneath’s training as they are currently in the base building phase of their spring marathon preparations. Both have started really positively to their training and at current trajectory are on for some really promising race days in Manchester and London respectively!
Well done for all your hard work this year and good luck for 2024!
